This study explores the female homeowner experience of retrofit in the UK, aiming to uncover women’s unique motivations, barriers and facilitators to inform future research, initiatives and policy. Retrofit is crucial for improving the energy efficiency of UK housing to meet net zero, therefore understanding why adoption remains low is essential. Literature presents that women tend to be environmentally conscious and engage with energy distinctly, warranting greater focus on gender in retrofit research.
